Collinwood is located at 35°10′13″N, 87°44′34″W (35.170153, -87.742731)GR1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.3 km² (2.8 mi²), all land.
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,024 people, 428 households, and 297 families residing in the city. The population density
was 141.2/km² (365.9/mi²). There were 473 housing units at an average
density of 65.2/km² (169.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was
98.24% White, 0.20% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.88% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.56% of the population.
There were 428 households out of which 30.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.8% were married couples
living together, 13.1% had a female householder with no husband
present, and 30.6% were non-families. 27.6% of all households were made
up of individuals and 13.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years
of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average
family size was 2.88.
In
the city the population was spread out with 23.7% under the age of 18,
10.9% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and
13.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years.
For every 100 females there were 88.6 males. For every 100 females age
18 and over, there were 86.4 males.
The
median income for a household in the city was $22,305, and the median
income for a family was $31,296. Males had a median income of $30,052
versus $18,269 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,716. About 10.4% of families and 16.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.2% of those under age 18 and 21.2% of those age 65 or over.
