MT 18:21-27 - GOD FORGIVES ALL DEBTS

INTRODUCTION:

Adam had one commandment and did not keep

We have the ten commandments and did not keep them

Sin is a nature and cannot be broken without the blood of Jesus - you will always choose sin until you have to power to choose otherwise through Christ.

V21-22 - THE QUESTION OF FORGIVENESS - WHO WILL YOU ANSWER TOO

Mat 18:21  Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Mat 18:22  Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

Lev 16:19  And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

Lev 26:18  And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

1 Ki 18:43  And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

Prov 24:16  For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

V23-24 - THE QUESTION OF ACCOUNTABILITY - WHAT WILL BE YOUR PLEA

Mat 18:23  Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. Mat 18:24  And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.

Adam talked directly with God

Enoch walked with God and God took him

Esau sold his birthright and found no place of repentance

Jonah had his whale

Balaam had his donkey

Peter had his rooster

Judas had his 30 pcs of silver

Thief on the cross had his forgiveness

Rom 14:8  For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

Rom 14:9  For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

Rom 14:10  But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

Rom 14:11  For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

Rom 14:12  So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

V25-26 - THE QUESTION OF RESOURCES TO PAY - WHAT IS YOUR DEFENSE

Mat 18:25  But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. Mat 18:26  The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

Gen 3:12 - Adam blamed the woman that God gave to be with him

Gen 3:13 - The woman blamed the serpent who beguiled her

Gen 3:14 - The serpent did not respond because he was cursed already

Rev 12:10  And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

Rom 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Rom 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Rom 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

V27 - THE QUESTION OF REDEMPTION

Mat 18:27  Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

2 Pet 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Mat 18:21  Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

Mat 18:22  Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
