Psalms 24:1-10 - THE GENERATION WHO LIFTS JESUS UP INTRODUCTION: Every generation finds themselves in a position to see either revival or recycle. Each generation must determine if it is the generation who will lift up Jesus higher than faults, failures, and fads. All the great moves of God in the past have been at great cost to someone but also was set on fire and caught up in hunger for Jesus and to find a place for renewal, revival, and radical change in a broken tradition that had left God out of all plans. This is a Psalm of David and refers back to 2 Samuel 6:1-23 and the story of the capture of Zion and bringing the Ark of God back to its rightful place in the tabernacle of God. It still amazes religion how something as important and substantial as the Ark could have been lost but it was and sin is causing multitudes to continue to lose out because God has to raise up a general and generation who will lift him up.
What happened? What went wrong? Why did David have trouble bringing the ark back to its rightful place?
2 SAMUEL 6 GIVES US THE ANSWERS!
I - V1-2 - ALL EMOTIONS WITH NO REVERENCE Everybody gets happy talking about revival and a big crowd can make us all get high on emotions but we must never forget the ark dwells between the cherubims and that is a holy place. We must approach revival with a reverence for God, his Word, and his holy place. Thank God for emotions of triumphant and victory but I believe there is a generation that is crying lift up your heads you gates and be lift up you everlasting doors.
II - V2-4 - NEW METHODS BUT NO SACRIFICE Anyone would have been proud of the new cart. No doubt it was the latest and best that money could buy. Nothing but the best for the Lord and especially the Ark.....right but in Numbers chapter 4 & 7 we are told God only wanted the sons of Kohath to have this burden Numbers 4:15 and they should bear it upon their shoulders Numbers 7:9. But no one was to touch this precious place where the blood was offered and the mercy seat was at but the blood was to be offered there for the sins of the people and God would manifest himself there. New methods are great but when we forget the price of the sacrifice of Christ all methods end in death and failure. But I believe there is a generation that is crying lift up your heads you gates and be lift up you everlasting doors.
III - V5-8 - PLAYING THE MUSIC THAT SHAKES THE CART BUT NO BROKENNESS Every revival has to have brokenness for sin and brokenness for the hurts of the people. I love many genres of music and it can shake things up but in the end if there is not brokenness then the lyrics are monotone and the music is redundant.
IV - V9-11 - TRADITIONS MUST BE LEFT AND THE SUPERNATURAL MUST BE EMBRACED David became afraid and left the Ark. How many times do people stop or leave just before revival breaks out? Are we so time conscience or embarrassed by the death of tradition that it scares us into just leaving things the way they are? Obed-Edom was there and his name means (serving-Edom). How ironic that God would allow the ark to rest with the descendant of Esau. The one who sold his birthright. With men it is impossible but with God all things are possible. God supernaturally bless OE for three months. It must have been so overwhelming that someone told David what was going on. Remember it was supernatural prosperity so it must have been like the grapes between two men, or gold coming up out of the ground. It was God showing he can resurrect his art even from the place of the dead and the camp of backsliders.
V - V12-13 - DAVID CAME WITH GLADNESS AND REVERENCE VI - V14-15 - DAVID CAME WITH DANCING AND SHOUTING VII - V16-17 - DAVID CAME AND BROUGHT THE ARK TO ITS PLACE VIII - V18-19 - DAVID CAME AND ALL THE PEOPLE WERE BLESSED
CONCLUSION: There is a generation who is singing - lift up your heads or ye gates and be lift up ye everlasting doors and the king of glory shall come in.
